Easy Flying

First off, this is my first drone and I wasn't sure what to expect. I bought one for two reasons, home inspection as this is cheaper/safer than a ladder for what I needed to see, and also for recreation. I spent a little extra than I was originally planning so I could have one that was useful beyond the just seeing high up around the house.
Now my background is in technology, I have a pilot’s license and I've flown RC airplanes in the past so my ability to pick this up quickly is in no way a baseline. Take your time and practice before going for a joy ride.
The included instructions were short, simple and easy to understand. No all-day reading to understand how to effectively operate this thing. It walks you through calibrating the compassions and gyro in the unit. Doing this helps it hover in place and makes flying it a breeze.
Calibration notes: Do this every time you power it up, it takes less than a minute. Make sure you do the gyro calibration on a surface you know is level, I’ve found this makes for a nice hover that doesn’t oscillate as much.
Flying note: Once it has a good calibration, it’s super easy to fly. It took me only my second time running it to feel comfortable flying by just looking at the app and camera feed. I was flying it around the neighborhood at speed and out of sight in no time.
The app: the app is good; I’m mostly just looking at the video feed, but it does a lot more I haven’t tried yet and don’t really need. I did have a small moment of panic as I reached the outer range of the video signal. The video feed is Wi-Fi, which has limited range and there is no way to add a better antenna to your phone, so you’re stuck with that distance limitation. The video feed started to studder but the RF signal from the remote was fine, so I made small corrections to reverse my course until the video signal improved and I was able to fly it home without issue.
Overall: I’m pleasantly surprised and I think I’ll use it more then I was planning to. How easy it is to fly makes it a lot of fun and not at all stressful as if I’m going to crash it at any moment.
