This is my first video drone. I bought this to document my house build and I have only flown it twice but so far I have been impressed.
Battery life: This model only comes with one battery and I have gotten about 15 mins of flight time each time. With an extra battery it would be much easier to have a productive outing.
Ease of use: The instructions were easy to follow and the WiFi connection used to pair your phone to the drone and controller has been reliable both in the country and in the city near other networks. The drone is very stable compared to other smaller toy drones I have used. The unit is larger and heavier than a toy drone and as a result is much more stable in the wind. There are beginner settings that allow you to limit the altitude and distance which are helpful while learning to fly. Once I was comfortable I turned off the limits and was able to fly much farther without any loss of control or interruption of the signal. The gps/compass setting must be turned on to keep the drone stable while in flight. This mode requires a quick compass calibration before each use which is not an issue once you figure it out. My experience without this mode in was that the drone would fly in a pendulum path without much ability to control it without landing. With the gos/compass mode on the drone is very easy to fly and precise flight adjustments can be made easily.
Camera: The camera is exactly what I expected for a drone at this price point. Obviously not the best camera on the market but it is more than adequate for my purposes at this point. The live feed is great and there is only about 1 second of lag so it can be used to fly the drone comfortably at long distances and slower speeds.
Phone app: So far phone app has been stable and easy to use.
Having issues with feed to phone but fun to fly!

Update: So after working with customer service and with some helpful suggestions form other users in the QandA section, I was able to consistently connect my phone to the drone and get some excellent video and photos. Unfortunately it still can't seem to keep a connection to my phone once it get a hundred feet or so away from me. I'm still trying to resolve this with Holy Stone's Customer Service, who have been very quick to respond and very helpful but overall I'm a little disappointed with the range but still really enjoy flying the drone! I also can still get video and photos when I fly the drone further out, I just can't see it live so still having fun with that. I updated the drone to 4 stars and if I am ever able to get a consistent connection I would gladly bump it up to 5!
This is my first drone so I have been a little slow trying to get used to the drone however today I got a good session in and am starting to feel comfortable with flying it. It feels great flying around, every once in a while it seems to seem to do whatever it wants for a second but I quickly regain control and by the time the battery ran down, I was feeling pretty confident flying around the park.
Unfortunately, I bought a 128gb memory card for it, I didnt realize it can only take a 32gb, so I wasnt able to capture any photos or video and I'm having issues with my phone losing connection to it as soon as I get it flying, so I dont have videos or photos from the air yet. I sent Holystone an email and hope they will get back to me as t ok how to fix this issue. With that said, if I never got that part working, I'd still give it a 3 star for the ease and fun of flying it around. But if i can get the camera working, I will definately bump it up to 5 stars. Seeing as no one else in the reviews mentions the same problems, I have a feeling mine is either defective or I'm missing a step when connecting the wifi.
Great intermediate option

Very happy so far. This is the biggest drone I’ve flown, but it’s easy to fly. Very solid and handles the wind well (the video is the first time I had it up and it was really windy). The picture quality is above a average and the adjustable camera gives you a lot of flexibility. Definitely a step up from drones in the $100-$200 range. Seems like it would be good preparation before going to more expensive models.

Very cool for the money, battery ran down within 10 minutes, but it was straight out of the box. Super stoked so far!

Review Update: Holy Stone actually reached out to me and collected some information on the issues I was experiencing with my drone – and after a little bit of troubleshooting we determined there was an “issue” with the drone and Holy Stone immediately sent out a replacement. The replacement HS270 does NOT have any of the issues I mentioned initially. It hovers almost perfectly – the flight controls are nice and smooth. It would still be nice if the video was captured at 4k on the card; but the video is nice and clear. The HS720D is still my favorite of the line up; but the HS700D 2nd… but this HS270 drone is nice and light and portable and lotta fun to fly.
Okay… So Holy Stone finally release a 4K drone – and of course I jumped on it; but honestly – I don’t really care for this model. It does have a great range – right up there with the HS700D and HS720D. It does fold up nicely – but does not include a nice carrying case like the HS720D does. The box it ships in is actually convenient though with a handle and foam cut outs for the drone and controller so I’m just using that as my “case” The drone has a 4k Camera – but it can only stream in 4k. The video is captured to the SD card at 2.7k; and in my opinion the video is not nearly as nice as its 2k compadres. The video seems a little washed out and over exposed to me. I’m also experiencing a constant “drifting” issue while hovering – almost like its compensating for wind even though there is no wind. The drone is a little slower than the 700 and 720 – but still not as slow as to be boring. I have had some issues with the “home return” function – but I may just not be using it correctly. On first return the drone seems to stop and the lights go to red flash… then on second press it does start to return home. The light configuration is white / blue like the HS100 drone – but the lights are not easily visible from the ground – they are on the tips of the folding arms – so you can only really see them as the drone moves and banks. Overall its not a “bad” drone; but I would definitely recommend the HS700D or HS720D over this model.
