My son loves drones and flying things so I got this drone as a start of the school year gift for him. This is the second drone that I have gotten him so far. The other drone was the Syma X5C and it was 70 dollars. The X5C didn't have real time FPV and it was not 1080p. The frame rate for the video was a bit higher though.
With both drones, there were some small battery problems. For the X5C we had some problems fitting in the battery and it was always a squeeze. For this drone, there was a huge battery compartment and it was easy to fit in but the battery was harder to connect. Once you got the hang of it though and have done it a few times, it only takes a few tries. Most drone batteries take a very long time to charge and it was the same for this drone. The charging time was 2 hrs and the flight time was 17 mins. For the X5C, the charge time was 2 hr and 20 mins and fly time is 14 min.
When the HS140 came, we had to assemble it but the instructions in the instruction manual were very clear and it wasn't hard to figure out what to do, and the installation didn't take too long. The screws for the landing thingys were a bit small but since the screwdriver that came with it was magnetic it wasn't much of a problem. The camera is slide on but it was pretty hard to slide it on and slide off and I guess that is for the better so when the drone is flying, it won't fall off. The connection wire and the plug for the camera was a bit loose but works.
The controller works well and fits perfectly into your hand. The buttons are easy to press and don't stick. It also connects very well with the drone and the drone responds instantly to all the commands. Drone is very tough and after a few hits, it still works perfectly and comes out unsacthed. The adjustments for the camera are very useful and you can adjust it depending on what you want to take pictures and videos of. The camera does not record sound when recording videos, but there is no need for that anyways because it would just be the sound of the spinning propeller blades.
FPV is indeed real time and is pretty easy to use. (Phone holder sometimes slide off though) You connect to the wifi the drone makes and download an app and everything else is automatic. The controls on the phone didn't work very well but the controller controls were more than enough to fly the drone. For the X5C drone, the camera didn't work very well indoors because there wasn't enough light but for this drone it works fine indoors. The flying of the drone is also very stable and it doesn't tilt too much to the side after you figured out the right combinations of adjustments on the controller. The camera does not have a SD card and that might make you suspicious. Don't worry though because when you take a picture it saves directly into the app on your phone and you can send it to computers or share with your friends on social media. The hand gesture feature works but the other features don’t work as well. Voice commands don’t really work and we haven't figured out trajectory flight yet.
Overall, this drone is worth its cost and the essential features work very well.
