Great drone for beginners

I bought this drone for my son who is 12 and is our first outdoors drone. The quality of the build is obvious from the moment you open the cardboard box. The quality of the drone body, the propellers, the motors etc. are excellent. The fact that the arms fold in make the drone very compact when carrying it or not in use. The carrying case is very well designed and you feel that the drone is very secure in the case. Setup and pairing the drone to the controller was a breeze and we were able to complete the setup in less than 10 mins. The first flight was very easy and the return to home feature makes you feel confident of trying out different features. We tried the return to home 4-5 times and every time the drone came to within a foot of where it launched from..The only improvement opportunity that I could see is that the charge time for the battery is close to 7 hours. Understand that the drone uses a lot of power, but the long charge time would make one plan way in advance of actual flying.
We will update the review after we have tried out the " follow me" and "waypoint" feature , but after a day of flying we couldn't have been more pleased.

For a number of years I have flown RC Helicopters / Drones (aka Quads) and now primarily RC Planes. Now having the desire to get back into flying Drones for just plain fun but also with the urge to do some professional photography I started searching for a Very High quality Drone, so after conducting a LOT of research I have chosen the HS720. Now having purchased the HS720 Drone because of all the AMAZING features that it had for it's price!!! I was searching for a Drone that has very long flight times which I found that the HS720 has. I also found it to be very easy to setup using the OPHELIA GPS Flight Interface App. Downloaded to your smart phone which allows you to control all the features on the HS720 Drone. I also wanted a very high quality Video/Photo Camera.
Below I have listed what I feel are some of the PROS and CONS of the HS720 Drone based on my own personal opinions.

CONS The iPhone holder on the Transmitter is also a bit challenging to open and setup the iPhone into it.

CONS Before Every Flight the Drone NEEDS to be CALIBRATED each and every time.

CONS I found it hard to read the small print in the Manuals

Please remember that this review is all based on my own personal opinions. Everybody has their own opinions of their likes and dislikes. Overall for the price I find this Drone a real KEEPER and made EXCEPTIONALLY WELL beyond most standards. Also I do NOT think of this as a toy.

More fun the second time around

Ok, so this is my second review of this drone. My first HS720 was given as a gift to my nephew. He's had it for about 10 days and absolutely loves it. He's done stuff with it that I didn't get a chance to do, however, I will post some updated photos once I get more time. Now.. on to the review.

The Holy Stone HS720 is my first purchase of a drone/quadracopter over $100 and I am pleasantly surprised of all the options that are available. It is definitely a step up over the "toy" drones I've had in the past. The build is a lot more solid and the stability in even strong winds really impressed me. I like the compactness of the drone and the way it stores easily. The folding is easy and has clear instructions on how to fold it.

As mentioned before, prior to purchasing the first HS720 I had not heard of HolyStone or any of its drone models, however, when I started looking and comparing, the price seemed a lot better than the competitors. It had everything I was looking for and more: long-range communication, better-than-HD video, long battery life, and Return To Home option. The remote/radio controller fits my phone (Samsung S8+) very well. I like the remote because it is not too cluttered and I fly with little effort.

As soon as I received the second model, I unboxed it and started flying it around. This time I was able to kill the battery after 15 minutes. The recharge time was still pretty long (6.25 hours) from dead to completely full charge. The second day I was able to flight it around on breezy day at some heights over 60 ft. I could see where the self-stabalization would engage whenever the wind would pick up. In less than a second, the drone was stable and steady. I have to work on my landings, however, the drone has held up like a champ.

One of the other options is the "follow me" mode and "point of interest" mode. Both worked well once I played with some of the settings. I'm sure they'll come in handy once I start using this for commercial photos and videos.

Overall, great product, great build, great materials. Easy to use and easy to learn. One of the biggest features that i wish this drone had is object avoidance like other manufacturers. This way I could fly with less apprehensiveness. Would definitely recommend as a personal gift or a gift to others. This is a perfect drone for a beginner or the next level up.

Also, their customer service is very helpful with questions and other requests I've had for them. They are well-informed and very friendly.

I bought the Holy Stone 720 after several weeks of reviews and videos I would say I made a very good choice this drone is very nice and operates very simply. It hovers rock solid even in winds.The photos and video I have uploaded here were shot in less than ideal weather on both day I have been able too fly it was 30 degrees outside and quiet windy I cant wait too fly this spring I know its going too be amazing. The flight time on mine is almost 30 minutes that's a lot of air time I do need too find another battery though before spring gets here. I suppose if I wish one thing was different would be the recharge time was quicker (need a second battery). This is a very good quality solid drone tons of power. The app you need too download works flawlessly and wifi range is awesome I have never lost signal. If your thinking of this drone please don't worry it is as good as claimed.

Not long after writing this review Holy Stone contacted me. Being very apologetic, and asking how they could rectify the situation. Truth be told, the odds that I was done by an Amazon employee is a more likely senerio.

Anyway we agreed that after I give the drone a thorough testing of all features and functions, if everything tested ok and I was satisfied I could keep the drone and as a courtesy they would send me a second battery free of charge, or I could simply return the drone, and they would have Amazon send out a replacement.

I thought both options were extremely fair, and since the drone was still in excellent condition, I decided the extra battery would come in very useful because of the long charge times, and since the charger already has a slot for two batteries I wouldn't need a different charger

So after much reading and watching a bunch of videos. I came to the conclusion as many others have that the HS720 was a great drone, with great features, with great distance, and at a great price.

I even looked at the used drones from Amazon warehouse, because I had heard from friends that alot of times you could pick up a like new unit at a substantial discount, but that didn't go very far because the pricing on the used units was more expensive than the new units that had a coupon which could be used at checkout.

So I decided to take the plunge and ordered a new unit. I was so excited when it arrived, and I was prepared. I had even download and read the entire manual before the drone arrived. But while I was unboxing my drone. Little light bulbs kept going off in my head. Not all the pieces to the unit were wrapped in plastic, and the ones that were had some small tears in them and the plastic was all wrinkled. You know, the look that happens when you try to rebox an item. The clear plastic that you need to remove from the controller had finger prints all over it. A couple of review videos I had watch said to make sure you remove the clear plastic pieces on the camera and from the bottom of the drone lights in as leaving them on will affect its ability to land.

Well I didn't have to worry about those, they weren't even on the unit. One other big clue, was in a bunch of reviews the one constant that kept coming up, was the extremely long charging time. 5 sometimes 6 hours everyone. Was having to wait.

Not me, mine was fully charged in just over an hour. A clear indication that it had been fully charged previously, then used for a short amount of time and then reboxed.

Overall I have to say I am impressed with the quality of the drone. It feels solid. But when I pay full price for a new item, I expect to get a new item. Not an item that was used, cleaned up and then reboxed. Because who knows what was done to that drone. Did it possibly get wet etc.. which would cause problems down the road.

If I wanted to take that chance and go with a used drone, I would have bought a used drone. That's why the used items at Amazon warehouse are discounted.

So I sit here, debating on whether to even test this used unit out or just send it back and hope that the replacement drone I order will be a new one this time.

I'll post an update after I have made my final decision.
