Dangerous Drone, malfunctions and nose dives out of control. PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Diane Brown

What can I say, this product was a big disappointment. The first few flights were fine, then for no reason at all, drone took off out of control and crashed. This happened twice and the drone was fully calibrated and had a fully charged battery. The first event resulted with the drone crashing into a large cluster of dense bush so I was able to retrieve it, change out the blades and try again. First flight was fine but the second flight was a disaster as you can see by the posted photos. After liftoff and climbing to about 60 feet, getting stable and just sitting there, the drone went uncontrollable and violently plunged into the ground at full speed. Thank god it didn't hit anyone as there were only a couple of people in the park. If it had there would be serious injury and potentially fatal.
I contacted Holy Stone and they basically said "so sorry, so sad, bye bye"

***** December 31, 2020 UPDATE *****
I have raised the rating based on the customer support I've received after this post. Holy Stone Customer Support Agent Cari negotiated with her employer on my behalf and convinced them to send me a replacement drone. The one I received is the 720E. Cari has also followed up on this with me several times. Although quite some time has passed since the original post, this is not due to the support, it's simply due to my location and the time for a shipment to arrive. I have not tested the 720E yet but I will soon and will follow-up with a review of it. I have to emphasize that the increase rating from a 1 to a 4 is based on the customer support I've received, NOT the HS470-4K and it's performance. I stand firm on my initial review of that product.

Finally a portable drone with carrying case

4

Joshua Prater

I have been pretty impressed with the HS720D. Its quick – responsive – portable – and finally a holy drone that comes with at freaking portable case! The controller runs off regular ole AA’s; and the battery charges in a little portable cradle instead of micro USB like some of the older Holy Stone Drones. The camera is built into the nose of this model – so you do see the props in the picture when at zero degree. One little nuisance I’ve notice is that my camera will get a “wavey” affect to the video every so often. It’s almost like it’s getting some air turbulence off the props. It doesn’t do it all the time – but it is noticeable when it does. The LED’s are the standard red / green configuration and tucked nicely into the folding arms. They are not as easy to see from a distance – but there is a bright white light on the bottom that can be turned on and off that is very easy to see. The distance on the HS720 is impressive – even in wifi congested suburbia. And when you take it out to the country – you can easily get 500 foot altitude. One concern I do have is I have noticed some wearing in the wire boots at the pivot points of the folding arms – the wire itself is fine – but the boot is definitely showing wear after just a handful of uses. This is actually my 2nd HS720 – as I had issues with the initial one – but Holy Stone customer support stepped up and immediately took care of the issues for me. The controller is a bit compact for my taste – but the feedback on the LCD display is great. Its nice to have all the information regarding battery ; signal strength; distance and such all right in front of you in a nice clean display.

Many faults

4

Caleb Micah Patterson

UPDATE: After reviewing the faulty drone, Holy Stone reached out to me and sent me a second drone free of charge and without having to return my old drone. The new drone was free of all the faults mentioned below and though the FPV feature is still laggy and not perfect. It is decent and much better then before. I am very satisfied with their above and beyond customer service as well. They even called me to make sure I had received the new drone.

Easy to setup and use, camera is decent and photo quality is ok. Very good value for money. If not for the issues I am about to bring up, I would give it five stars.

First off, as shown in the pictures. After just one use, the cable running power to one of the motors is binding up when the drone is folded and already crimping and has rubbed through the protective insulation. The drone came with a preexisting hole worn into the cable.
That is unacceptable and I am afraid it will only last a few more uses before the cable fails.

Next, the controller is very touchy and the drone is difficult to smoothly control even on slow setting.

And for my biggest concern, the company claims 600-1200 feet of FPV range. So far in a secluded field. I have only been able to fly a max distance of 150 feet before my live feed looses all connection. I am using a 2 year old iPhone SE that is completely compatible with the drones system.

At this point I am hoping to return the drone and get another one or forgoe it all together.

If not for these issues or if the drone had come as promised in the specs. It would be a fantastic buy and from the reviews it would seem mine is just a fluke. But beware.

A Good Drone - Video is Questionable and be careful in breezy conditions

4

Greg H.

This is the original unedited video. Bought this drone almost specifically for the follow me feature and the 2k camera. We launched the drone from the moving raft, and it seemed to drift away from us during the following me function causing some concern after a little bit of time. The weather forecast called for 6-10mph gusts and it did seem to be affected by the general breezy conditions in the river valley but it wasn't too windy as you can see from the video and we didn't take it up in gusty conditions. We had a really close call in another video while standing on the shore, and it seemed to struggle in the breeze, and we almost lost it over the water, but we were able to get it up just in time. It's a fast snappy drone, and fun, but it gets exciting when there is a little distance between you and the drone. We will try it again over the river eventually, but before then we will practice a little more with the follow me while riding our bikes on some single track trails to see if there might be some settings that improves the video, and possibly changing a speed setting on the drone itself. I had a hard time deciding between this and a few others like the JJRC X11 or the Hubsan Zino, or the Traxxas, but decided to go with this model for the price point. For a not much more, the DJI Mavic probably would have been my next choice, but didn't want to spend the extra in cash in case it went in the water. We haven't yet flown it for over 20 minutes at a time before re-charging the battery to know what the full battery life is yet. The charger does take a crazy longtime to charge the battery even though we haven't drained it yet. I really like the case and controller, and the way that the controller has the collapsible phone holder instead of the type you have to click in, or screw into the controller keeping the footprint small.

Contacted the company and got my replacement. Great customer service. June was the BEST!
I flew the drone few times, very easy to control and quiet. Love the return Home feature. The camera/video quality could be improved... pictures not as sharp, “jello” wave video. For the price, it’s a good drone.

Updated 1-Star to 4-Star for great customer service!

The package arrived today and I was so excited... but very disappointed after inspecting the package. I ordered new product but received USED items (see images). I’m giving 1-star for this incident. Until the new item arrived, I’ll update my review of the product.
